FAIRsFAIR
Practical solutions for the use of FAIR principles throughout the data life cycle. Fostering a FAIR data culture and the uptake of good practices.
About the Project

The FAIRsFAIR project, funded under the European Horizon 2020 framework, aimed to implement the FAIR (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, Reusable) data principles across Europe. Its goal was to provide practical solutions for managing research data in alignment with FAIR standards, supporting the broader objectives of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC).
The project contributed to the creation of Rules of Participation (RoP), setting regulatory compliance for participation in EOSC, while offering a platform to implement FAIR principles in the everyday operations of European data providers and repositories. It also provided tools, methodologies, and guidelines to help research institutions and data providers integrate FAIR practices, fostering a culture of openness, collaboration, and long-term data accessibility.
Throughout its duration, FAIRsFAIR focused on training, developing certification schemes, improving metadata cataloging, and addressing legal barriers to data sharing. By its conclusion, it had established a sustainable ecosystem for FAIR data practices in European research.
Characteristics of the Project
Project type: European Project
Duration: 2019-2022
Objectives of the Project

- Develop knowledge infrastructure for FAIR data management, procedures, standards, and metrics across the entire data lifecycle.
- Improve repository certification to include FAIR principles and define maturity levels necessary to support FAIR data.
- Establish a European network of trustworthy repositories that support FAIR data and ensure long-term accessibility.
- Provide guidance and support to data repositories aiming for FAIR certification and assist certification reviewers.
- Offer a reliable tool for stakeholders to find relevant certified FAIR repositories, enhancing access to open data.
- Define and pilot core-level certification for FAIR data repositories and establish more rigorous requirements through pilots to evaluate data in trustworthy repositories.
- Encourage the integration of FAIR principles into the daily practices of European data providers and repositories, promoting a culture of open data.
- Collaborate with international projects such as GO-FAIR and RDA to ensure alignment with global FAIR data standards.
- Contribute to the development of Rules of Participation (RoP) for participation in EOSC, ensuring that infrastructure components function in a FAIR manner.
- Facilitate interoperability among repositories by standardizing procedures, improving collaboration between national and international data infrastructures.
