Open Science is the New Norm – A Skills4EOSC Course

The first course from Skills4EOSC, “Open Science is the New Norm,” introduces participants to the principles and impact of open science. It explores transparency, accountability, and contrasts open science with traditional closed science models. Participants will gain foundational knowledge of how open science promotes collaboration and innovation. The course includes 5-6 hours of self-paced learning and a 2-hour live session on April 4th, from 10:00 to 12:00 AM CET.

Transforming research assessment: Eva Méndez and Rianne Letschert discuss CoARA and the role of young universities

The evaluation of research and academic contributions is undergoing a significant shift. As demands grow for a fairer, more transparent, and more accountable assessment system, initiatives like CoARA have been at the forefront of driving meaningful reform.

Introducing MetaROR: An open peer review platform for metaresearch

MetaROR is a community initiative led jointly by the Research on Research Institute (RoRI) and the Association for Interdisciplinary Meta-Research and Open Science (AIMOS). It provides a platform that leverages the publish–review-curate model to improve the dissemination and evaluation of metaresearch.

Open Science Community Madrid (OSCM)

The Open Science Community Madrid (OSCM) is an initiative aimed at promoting Open Science in the region by connecting individuals interested in this scientific approach. Through events, meetups, and collaborative projects, this community fosters learning, cooperation, and the sharing of ideas to drive more accessible and transparent science.

We would love to have you as part of this dynamic and enriching community. Your participation is key to building a more open and collaborative future together!

2024 Conference - Gender and Research Assessment: Proposing a move from ‘Responsible’ to ‘Responsive’

The conference “Gender in Research Assessment: Proposing a Move from ‘Responsible’ to ‘Responsive’” by Kyriaki Kourra and Alexia Panayiotou from the University of Cyprus, critiques how male privilege and gender biases persist in academia, particularly in journal metrics and research assessments. These biases negatively impact female authors’ opportunities for publication, citation, and funding. While initiatives like CoARA, DORA and The Leiden Manifesto aim to promote “responsible” metrics, the speakers argue these efforts still fail to address deep-rooted gender inequalities. They propose a shift towards “responsive” approaches, which would better expose biased practices and prevent superficial actions like “genderwashing,” ultimately pushing for more meaningful change in research evaluation.
